Starting the camera project

For the last two days me and Parish have been sick and were not able to come to aut, however i came late in the day as i was feeling better and beginning to decide on ideas for our project. So far we have decided to make something that has the two cameras on it and takes photos of the reflection of the city. Our theme is nightlife in auckland city and we are thinking about doing the filming on Thursday and Friday night with long exposure cameras. These cameras are designed to catch multiple frames in one photo to give the appearance of everything happening fast. This will give our project lots of effect in the idea that we're trying to portray. Another idea that we came up with is a camera that either goes on the water or goes underwater, we also had an idea to have the whole of auckland in a picture that is taken from our device that is placed in northcote, where the harbor bridge starts.

Wearable Garment

Today i have finished making my wearable garment and my max patch. I have soldered all of the wires on to the to the keyboard chip and made the wires go through the shirt and through holes i cut in the sleeve. The wires are then connected to the donut like metal pieces which are glued to the sleeve. I soldered these pieces together. Each of the metal piece is connected to individual part of the key board chip. On the other side of the keyboard chip there was one wire connected to it. This was the main wire that when touched on each of the different wires in will make a different key. I put this wore through the right arm of the shirt then made a whole in the glove. There is small metal pieces on each of the fingers of the glove. There is a wire that connects each ends of the fingers together so i don't have to re connect each finger to the key board chip. I have made the max patch now so it just plays sounds, so when i wear my garment i am able to play 5 different tunes and make small simple piano songs by just tapping my the pieces of metal from the glove to the pieces of metal on the arm. I also have a 6th piece which when you tap it will start a continuous drum beat. I wasn't able to get the drum beat to loop so i just made it real long and will key going for about 2 minutes until you switch it off.

Horror Film Project "Home"

Camera and sound work

Two cameras, one following the main character, and on showing close ups off their face.

Like from the movie dead silence, a main character will be in the room making pop corn, boiling water and listening to music, there is a lot of noise, and in the space from 0 to 3 seconds all the sound goes down, and it is completely silent, and all you can hear is the heart beat, and the door creaking when opened and closed.

Background of the main character

Could have a background of mental illness (sleep paralysis) She always see's things when she goes into sleep paralysis, except the things that she see's are actually true.

Somewhere isolated, a big wooden house, in a country area, or on a farm.

Mental illness schizophrenic or autistic (could be a savant which will make the story more realistic)

If shot right, this will give a deep understanding of what we are trying to communicate with the audience. The skill of acting does not matter but they right camera cuts are to most essential part of this film. If we do not cut scenes or change angles of the camera frequently the audience will get bored and it will feel like they are just watching something happen however if we cut and change angles frequently the audience will fell like they are in the movie and they will understand the story from different points of view more and therefore express the emotions that we were trying to achieve, ie. Frightened (which will be easy) and hopefully even scared (which will be really hard to do)

Film Project Horror

Today we decided on some ideas for films that we can reference and get ideas from. The movie "Dead Silence" is a good film to use because and has some really clever camera and sound techniques that are simple but extremely effective. I don't know how his film is going to turn out due to the quality of the camera's that we are using, but i think it will be a bit scary if done right. We have a lot of ideas to use in the film, and we have found when and where about's in the film we will use the "theres no place like home" quote and the red shoes. Luckily, the quote and the shoes can be really useful in scaring the audience. At this stage Theresa is going to be the main character and Charlotte is going to be the evil character and/or the neighbor which the main character is paranoid about due to her dreams. We have a started on the story board and have a good dialog for the story.

This is my story for my character John McGreggor

Jonathan Mcgreggor

A 25 year old Caucasian male, with a devastating background.

When John was born, Harlem, New York, 1985 doctors had discovered that he was diagnosed with autism. When his father Michael Mcgreggor found out about his condition, he walked out and was never to be seen again. Johns mother, Jennifer Mcgreggor was left with an autistic kid and no form of income. For the first 4 years of Johns life, his Mother had worked two jobs on a very low salary to support him. John had never made any friends or got on with any of the other kids. On Johns 5th birthday, there was an expected visit from his father, but he never showed. Johns mother could not take it anymore and abandoned her son on the sidewalk. Johns mother was also never to be seen again. John had to grow up on the streets and fight other homeless people for food and nourishment. He had become very street wise even with his mental illness although he never made a single friend and soon had a bad reputation for his anti social behavior.

Because of Johns knowledge of the streets, he only spent a few days in jail over minor convictions, where he had gotten away with a lot of stuff.

Unity

I am going to use unity to animate the characters and create a 3D background. My aim is to create a 3D under water world, that each of the four characters are controlled individually by the user in 3rd person. I will use blender to create the characters, and blender to also create the items which the characters are going to interact with. These items will represent a specific time or moment that changed the outcome of the characters life, and shaped the way in which they react to certain objects found throughout the game. There is a website, www.learnmesilly.com, which is made up of how to videos for unity and character modeling software which is made and narrated by Will Goldstone, i intend to use this website to learn how to use this software and create the world and characters. Unity will be ran through a program which picks up light from the camera and used as a mouse.

Fun Animation Project

For this project we thought up some characters, we came up with four. John mcGreggor (Hammer), Eclipse (Boxing tennis ball), Octi (Octipus) and bandage man. My character was John mcGreggor, a walking hammer who was born in harlem, New york, 1985. He was diagnosed with autism and had a tragic life. We didn't include the hammer or the bandage man in our final project. In our final project, we had Ma'ake and Ronald working on the sketch book, Chad working on a camera operated mouse pad that picks up shadow, and i was working on the processing part of the project. Animation in processing is easy to do, but just takes a lot of time, for each image used in processing you have to create and import each picture. When i did my processing, Ronald created some pictures of the two characters, Eclipse and Octi, in photoshop, and he created them with different emotions, and wearing different items. He also created 6 items that the two characters interact with. I put all of these images into processing and make it so you drag the mouse over any object, and click it, and hold down a key (the beginning letter of the item) and then drag it to the character, and he will some how change depending on what item you dragged over. Also due to the characters having a sad background, if you click the character and drag them around, they will smile while they are being dragged, and go back to normal after they have finished being dragged.
